Description
Pat Aug 1 1882Did this once belong to the Lady with the Alligator Purse? A doctor’s bag? Used on the railways by an agent as a satchel for transporting money or important documents? We can only guess but here are a few clues – transport receipt labels affixed to the bottom of the bag, between the four gun metal purse feet, show date of 1950, Wells Fargo & Co. Ex and American Railway Express, San Francisco. The patented (marked) metal closure has a locking device on top and interesting side closures. There are no longer handles or a strap but the fixtures are still in place.
This is a beautiful antique vintage alligator satchel, in well-used condition. It’s tatty and has some areas on the sides that are worn through. Age related spots and a wonderful old patina.
All items are “as is”. Please inspect photos carefully and email with any questions you might have. Every effort is made to disclose all known information and condition. Thank you.
