Japanese Tokoname ware Ceramic Teapot Kyusu.
Tokoname ware (Tokoname yaki) refers to a type of Japanese pottery, stoneware, and ceramics produced in and around the municipality of Tokoname, Aichi, in central Japan. Tokoname was the location of one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan.
This listing is for a vintage Japanese pottery side handle teapot (Yokode Kyusu) of Tokoname ware (Tokoname yaki). Was made about 20-30 years ago. Made of red clay (Shudei). The poem is hand-carved on the body.
Yokode Kyusu  横手の急須  literally "side hand tea pot" are teapot with the handles placed on the side of the pot. The design of these pots makes it easy to pour out every last single drop of tea.
when sitting on a tatami mat in a traditional Japanese room, as the host would sit across from the guest rather than pour tea from the side or from behind.
