FROSST'S PHARMACEUTICALS DINGBAT LAND MEDICAL CALENDAR. Vintage advertising calendar featuring the fictional pixie like creations called "the dingbats" in a variety of WWII and other medical profession related humorous fictional environments.
BACK IN THE DAY advertising........Frosst's Pharmaceutical Company Montreal Canada. Calendars are large size 14"x 26 ¾”
Great artwork in a whimsical "Flintstone bedrock" type hospital setting. These calendars are quite scarce today I have found a few examples in private medical collections and medical museums.
The artwork on this piece is by Alex Mclaren picturing. Central image area measures 11" by 14 ½”. Calendar retains date pad which measures 9 ¼” X 6 ¾” for February – December months.
Each month advertises a different Frosst product. This piece is in wonderful condition and retains its original top and bottom tin-strip the hanging loop is in mint condition, let me say that again MINT condition, NEVER hung.
The Frosst Dingbat Calendars history: From 1915 until 1996, health professionals all across Canada received a calendar which featured the healing efforts of the Dingbats. Charles Elliot Frosst founded the Canadian company that bore his name until more recently it was taken over by a major American manufacturer to become Merck-Frosst.
Charles Frosst engaged the artist, William Dudley Burnett Ward, to paint an appealing calendar for distribution to his firm's audience. It was so appealing the Frosst continued the resulting Dingbat calendars for 81 years with a succession of different artists. The Dingbat calendar was introduced in 1915, each year the Dingbats were featured performing scientific investigation or some collective effort of tending to patients. The Dingbat calendar which was distributed to doctors, pharmacists, hospitals and school nurses across the country. It featured a red-nosed, bug-eyed gnome-like character involved in an amusing experiment connected to medical research or hospital treatment. A fabulous addition to your collection.
Item will be shipped in tube and I DO ship worldwide!!
    The Frosst Dingbat Calendars
From 1915 until 1996, health professionals all across Canada received a calendar which featured the healing efforts of the Dingbats. Charles Edward Frosst founded the Canadian company that bore his name until 1965 when it was taken over by a major American manufacturer to become Merck-Frosst. Charles Frosst engaged the artist, William Dudley Burnett Ward, to paint an appealing calendar for distribution to his firm's audience.
It was so appealing the Frosst continued the resulting Dingbat© calendars for 81 years with a succession of different artists.
However, the Dingbat calendars were discontinued as a result of a Canadian industry's association decision that the Dingbat promotion was unfair competition.
This decision was a monumental error in the widespread view, even among competitors, as the Dingbats were seen by many as an ornament benefiting the entire industry. (We see here, from 1949, “50 Years of Progress in Dingbatland”; and another, from 1986, “Pharmaceutical Research in Dingbatland.”
